Hi! I’m Angela! And I’m The Girl with a Shovel! My purpose with this website is to help people who struggle with plants. Coming from a long line of black thumbs, I personally struggled for years with my own indoor plants.
I had SO many of my beginning plants die on me. I just couldn’t figure it out.
But then one day… it all clicked.
And I suddenly was able to keep my plants alive! And not just alive, but growing, flowering, and even producing offsets! (Yay! Even more plants!)
Now I’m glad that I went through the years of being a plant-killer. Through that process, I was able to learn what to do (and more importantly… what not to do!)
Through my experience I can now help you become a plant expert even faster than I did! With all of my “aha” moments explained, I’m here to help you with your own plant problems. So try me! Feel free to read through my articles, check out my plant tips, and even message me if you want some personal advice. Because I’m here to help you succeed!
About Me
I grew up in California where everything grew easily. I started my first garden at 16 as a part of a religious project, and I’ve been a plant person ever since!
Having a love for the outdoors and a determination to create beautiful spaces, I graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Landscape Management and a minor in Business Management. This degree was one-of-a-kind as it covered landscape design, maintenance, horticulture, floriculture, plant propagation, and many others. I also had the amazing experience of building a native plant nursery in the Western deserts of Utah.
Fast forward a few years and I now live with my husband and two beautiful children in the state of Georgia. Here the climate is much different from the heat of California. I’ve been able to experience both the northern planting challenges as well as southern planting challenges. I also now run my own landscape design business as well!
Overall, I have now lived in (and grown plants in) California, New Mexico, Utah, Idaho, Georgia, and even Brazil! So I understand how each person’s climate will affect their individual care routine. From the desert to the tropics, to snow country, I’ve personally had to adapt to each climate and can now help you know what you specifically need.
So feel free to email me with any questions you have!
